Taming Notifications: The 15-Minute Fix for Your Phone

TTobias Tröndle · Updated: 2026-05-13

Every notification is a stranger yelling at you: "Look at me — RIGHT NOW!" On average, that happens 60 to 80 times a day. Time to step into the role of bouncer.

The 15-Minute Fix

  1. Turn everything off (2 min): Settings → Notifications → disable everything. Radical, but it's the only clean place to start.
  2. The people rule (5 min): Allow back whatever comes from real people, personally, to you: calls, messages from family or your team. NO groups, no channels.
  3. The time-critical rule (5 min): Allow whatever would be too late in 10 minutes: pickup times, burglar alarms, 2FA codes. That's it — if you're honest, you'll end up with 5 to 8 apps.
  4. Everything else to summary (3 min): News, social, newsletters: bundled once a day or gone entirely.

The Payoff

After a week, the old setup feels absurd — like an office where anyone can barge in at any time. The follow-up for your workspace: eliminate distractions and, every now and then, a digital detox day.

By the way: In ToDoClub you just drop tasks into the chat as a sentence — the AI figures out the due date, priority, and life area on its own. Try it for free at todoclub.org.
