Nine things a day — no more. The 1-3-5 rule forces you into an honest choice: 1 big chunk, 3 medium tasks, 5 small ones.
Why it works
Endless lists keep your brain on constant alert. With 1-3-5, the day is "full" the moment those nine slots are taken — any new task has to bump something else out. That creates exactly the kind of prioritizing you'd otherwise dodge.
How to put it into practice
- In the evening (why the evening?), pick your one big chunk (60–120 min).
- Add three medium tasks (~30 min each).
- Fill in with five small things under 10 minutes.
The deal you make with yourself
Got it all done? Clock off with a clear conscience — even at 3 p.m. Didn't finish? No drama: the big chunk takes priority, and the rest moves into your weekly plan.
