Eliminate Distractions: The Anti-Distraction Protocol

TTobias Tröndle · Updated: 2026-05-06

Every distraction doesn't just cost you the 30 seconds of scrolling — it costs the up to 23 minutes it takes to dive back in afterward. The fight is worth it, but you win it with structure, not willpower.

Layer 1: Devices

  • Tame your notifications ruthlessly — there's a whole article on how to do it.
  • Put your phone in another room during focus blocks. Visible = mentally present, even when it's switched off.
  • On your computer: one window, full screen, a website blocker for the usual suspects.

Layer 2: Environment

A low-stimulation workspace, headphones as a signal to others, door closed if you have one. People are the most stubborn distraction of all — communicate your focus times openly.

Layer 3: Mind

Those internal impulses ("let me just fire off one more email!") are the nastiest layer. The antidote: a notepad next to your keyboard, jot down the thought, keep working. The idea is taken care of, and your focus stays intact.

The Order Trick

Start with Layer 1 (mechanical, effective immediately), then Layer 2, then Layer 3. Start with your mind and you'll lose to the feed.

By the way: In ToDoClub, you just toss tasks into the chat as a sentence — the AI figures out the due date, priority, and life area on its own. Try it for free at todoclub.org.
