Evening Planning: Why 5 PM Is the Best Time

TTobias Tröndle · Updated: 2026-02-23

Planning in the morning means burning your sharpest hours on admin. Plan the night before instead — then you dive straight into doing.

Three reasons for the evening

  1. No decision fatigue in the morning: The plan is ready, you just get started.
  2. Better wind-down: Whatever's scheduled stops spinning around in your head — and your evening actually feels free.
  3. A more honest read: In the evening you still remember how full the day really was, so you plan more realistically.

The 5-minute ritual

  • Look ahead to tomorrow: Any appointments? Energy level?
  • Make your 1-3-5 picks
  • Name the one big rock that matters tomorrow

Make it stick

Attach the ritual to your evening routine — right after brushing your teeth, for example. Five minutes that carry the whole next day.
