Four hours lost, meals forgotten, a masterpiece built — just, sadly, on the wrong project. Hyperfocus isn't a breakdown of concentration; it's concentration in overdrive.
Steering the way in
Hyperfocus follows interest, not importance. The trick: make the important stuff interesting.
- Add some novelty: a new spot, a new tool, a timer challenge.
- Have a starting ritual: the same music + headphones every time = a signal that says "time to dive in."
- Open the right task first: whatever's open first often wins your focus.
Coming back up safely
To fight the way time just vanishes (time blindness), you need hard anchors: an alarm with a label ("DRINK / 12:30 meeting"), calendar alerts, people who come and get you.
How it differs from flow
Flow can be steered and ends when you choose; hyperfocus hijacks. With a starting ritual and resurfacing anchors, you turn the hijacker into an ally.
By the way: In ToDoClub you just toss tasks into the chat as a sentence — the AI figures out the due date, priority, and life area on its own. Try it free at todoclub.org.
