The hours fly by, the work almost does itself, and you're completely absorbed in it: flow is the state that makes work worth doing — and you can create it.
The four conditions
- A clear goal: You always know what the next step is.
- Immediate feedback: You can see whether it's working (the code runs, the text grows).
- The right level of difficulty: About 4% above your current ability. Too easy = boredom, too hard = anxiety.
- No interruptions: Flow needs 10–15 minutes to build up — every interruption throws you back to the start (eliminate distractions).
Inviting flow (you can't force it)
- A startup ritual: same place, same music, timer on (building deep work)
- Break the task down beforehand: clear next steps = condition 1
- Adjust the difficulty: too easy? Add constraints. Too hard? Break it down.
Flow vs. hyperfocus
Flow is controllable and ends without a hangover; hyperfocus picks its own target. Once you know both, you can use both.
By the way: In ToDoClub you just toss tasks into the chat as a sentence — the AI figures out the due date, priority, and life area on its own. Try it for free at todoclub.org.
