25 minutes of work, a 5-minute break, and a longer break after four rounds — time management doesn't get any simpler. And almost nothing works this reliably.
Why it works
The timer answers the hardest question ("How long do I have to push through this?") with a bearable number. Anyone can do 25 minutes — even for tasks you dread.
The process
- Pick ONE task (no multitasking!)
- Set the timer for 25 minutes, and keep it visible — ideally as a ring that counts down
- When it rings: actually get up. Breaks are part of the method
- After 4 pomodoros: take a 20–30 minute break
Common mistakes
- Skipping the break → after 3 hours you're running on empty.
- Scrolling during the break → that's not a break, that's just switching stimuli.
- Being too dogmatic: In the flow at minute 25? Feel free to keep going. The timer serves you, not the other way around — for long sessions there are deep-work variations using 50/10.
