Weekly Planning: The 20-Minute Ritual for a Calm Week

TTobias Tröndle · Updated: 2026-02-16

If you don't plan your week, the week plans you. Twenty minutes on Sunday save you five frantic mornings.

The three steps

  1. Review (5 min): What slipped through the cracks? Consciously reschedule it or let it go — more details in the weekly review.
  2. Calendar check (5 min): Which appointments will eat your time? A day with four meetings has no room for a big chunk of work.
  3. Three weekly goals (10 min): Not ten. Three things that make the week a success — and from those you'll draw your daily 1-3-5 planning.

How it differs from daily planning

Daily planning asks "What fits today?", weekly planning asks "What matters this week?". Without that second question, you'll efficiently optimize your way through unimportant days.

Pro tip

Tie the ritual to a fixed trigger (Sunday-evening tea, Monday-morning coffee) — that's how it becomes a habit.
